Transfer Boards

Boards used to bridge the gap between two surfaces, e.g. Pat Slide – large boards used to slide patients from bed to trolley or vice visa. Banana Boards – can be used to assist patients to slide from chair to commode or chair to bed.

Slide Sheets

Tubular in design with a non-slip outer surface. Some have handles and some are padded. It enables the patient to slide up across the bed with very little effort required by the handler. They are various designs, shaped and sizes. Great care must be taken with Slide Sheets as they can move the patient very quickly and can cause the patient to slip if not used correctly.

Turning Aids

Turn Plates enable patients who can weight bear to be turned during a transfer. They usually have a non-slip base and a low-friction core to provide controlled rotation, e.g. The Rotunda.

Bath Lifts

There are many different types of aids available to assist patients in and out of the bath. They could be portable, fixed to the floor or built in the bath. The same principles apply as to the use of hoists.

Sling

There are a multitude of different slings available with varying designs and functions. Each patient will have to be assessed for the correct sling according to their needs.
